Grandfather Clock

Grandfather Clock
I have always loved coffee and drink it every morning. From the begging of the year, I have wanted to paint with it. I searched for objects to paint that are rustic and put off and old feeling. After I found the clock face, I decided to make it more interesting and put an older man crying on it. The meaning behind it is time is ticking away, and the metaphoric “grandfather” is very upset about it. The balance and shape of the clock along with the dark shadows and highlights allowed me to create my most interesting piece this year.

Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta, Georgia
This summer I visited Atlanta, Georgia for several days. This city was very different to me due to me growing up in such a small town with little traffic. Landscapes, I have learned, are very challenging for me. This was my first piece and it was definitely a learning expirence. Although this was not my best work, it allowed me to learn from my mistakes. The sun was beginning to set and created a vibrant reflection along the glass skyscrapers. The layout of the foreground allowed me to bring some green into the buildings, creating harmony and balance. Perspective was used for the buildings.

My great-grandfather was a pastor and missionary who traveled to many countries spreading the gospel. When he passed away, my family inherited several things he gathered on his journeys. My grandfather bought these hand carved and painted wooden scuptures. We were required to paint a still life so I chose this due to the special meaning and uniqeness. I arranged these objects in hope to create a piece that was well proportioned with no negative space. Highlights were added on every object due to the light shining from the front.

I decided to paint several of a friend's vehicles. They tresure their vehicles whch have been passed down through several generations. I was told that automobiles were very challenging to paint, therefore, I took the challenge. I used oil paint along with a palete knife for the whole picture. I had to create this image only using two seperate pictures of the vehicles; I changed the angles and the background. Texture, enahnced by the palete knife, value, through the shadows and highlights, and emphasis on the two vehicles created an overall visually appealing painting.
